Es ist uns eine grosse Ehre, dass Bundesrat Ignazio Cassis das Annual Meeting 2024 eröffnen wird.
 
Als Vorsteher des Eidgenössischen Departements für auswärtige Angelegenheiten (EDA) wird Bundesrat Cassis seine Einschätzung zur Rolle der Schweiz in der Welt und Europa teilen.
 
Der promovierte Mediziner begann seine politische Karriere als Gemeinderat der Gemeinde Collina d`Oro im Bezirk Lugano. 2007 wurde Ignazio Cassis, der damals als Kantonsarzt tätig war, in den Nationalrat gewählt und gehörte dort der Bundeshausfraktion FDP – den Liberalen an. 2017 schliesslich folgte seine Wahl in den Bundesrat und leitet seit 1. November 2017 das Eidgenössische Departement für auswärtige Angelegenheiten (EDA). Dem Anciennitätsprinzip folgend war er 2022 Bundespräsident.

Federal Councillor, Head of Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA

It is a great honour for us that Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis will open the Annual Meeting 2024.

As head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Federal Councillor Cassis will share his views on Switzerland's role in the world and Europe.

Federal Councillor Cassis, who holds a doctorate in medicine, began his political career as a local councillor in the municipality of Collina d'Oro in the district of Lugano. In 2007, Ignazio Cassis, who was working as a cantonal doctor at the time, was elected to the National Council, where he was a member of the FDP - Liberals parliamentary group. He was finally elected to the Federal Council in 2017 and has headed the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) since 1 November 2017. Following the principle of seniority, he was President of the Confederation in 2022.
