Dr. Renato Krpoun heads the Swiss Space Office (SSO), which is part of the State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation in the Federal Department of Home Affairs. He also serves as head of the Swiss delegation to the European Space Agency.

He has been appointed to chair the ESA Council at delegation level for a two-year term, beginning in July 2023. At the national level, he chairs the Swiss government's Interdepartmental Coordination Committee for Space Affairs (ICAR).
Before joining the Swiss Space Office, Dr. Renato Krpoun held various positions in the academic area as well as in the industry. Among others, he was responsible for setting up a subsidiary of a Swiss aerospace and defense company in Huntsville, Alabama (USA).

After obtaining his engineering degree and doctorate from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Dr. Renato Krpoun completed an MBA at the University of St. Gallen.
His work in the space sector has already taken him to Brazil and the United States, where he lived and worked. As co-initiator of the "SwissCube", the first Swiss satellite launched in 2009, he has dedicated his professional career to the space sector.
